Is it normal that i refrain from lending my books to people?

I'm the kind of person who is careful with how I handle books so that they won't fall apart.

I honestly do not like sharing or lending out my books because more often than not, I find them returned with rips, unsightly creases and torn spines.

IIN?

Lending anything except your time, is generally a hit or miss deal. I agree about books and music, especially.

    Polonius:
Neither a borrower nor a lender be,
For loan oft loses both itself and friend,
And borrowing dulls the edge of husbandry.
    Hamlet Act 1, scene 3, 75–77

But seriously, when I'm just getting to know someone if they immediately start asking to borrow stuff of mine I tend to lose interest in being their friend and distance myself from them quite swiftly.

The last time I lent someone books, I didn't get one back and the rest came back all bent and sticky. Sticky! So I understand. I don't even open them very far because I don't like the spines ruined.

This is normal. In the past, I would let people borrow my manga and they'd return it with bent up covers and destroyed spines, so now I no longer let people borrow them.

I got banned from a library for returning a tattered book in tatters :(

I'm the same way with my books and stopped lending them out. At least you're getting them back!
