Is it normal that i tend to watch people play games rather than play them?

Most of the time when I'm on my computer I tend to watch people play games rather than playing a game myself. IIN?

Why don't you just play them instead? Do you feel incapable?

Some people can't afford to get into gaming, it's a simple alternative. Plus it's entertaining for some. When I watched I usually watched for the commentary and had it playing in the background while I did other stuff.

If he could afford it I don't think he would make this post. It seems like he's raising a question as to why he is watching instead of playing, if money was the issue the question wouldn't have been raised at all. And I know it's entertaining because I watch it myself. I think my first comment was unnecessarily harsh and I didn't mean it to be. I was just asking why he would choose to watch others do something instead of trying it himself and maybe, you know... do both?

-shrug- The same reason we look to TV and read books instead of write our own stories. Or something similar. Well......that depends entirely on the games he's watching. Most single player offline games are story driven and that's more or less like a movie if you haven't got much interest in playing them yourself. Sometimes that can be all the draw but he probably realizes it's not what most people do when they hear of a game that sounds interesting. They usually do what you said and try it themself. Thus the reason for asking Is it normal. Now if he's watching games like COD and Modern Warfare and whatnot. Then I have no answer for you. The kid's weird xD

Maybe I looked to far into the question anyways.

It certainly is. I've always found more enjoyment from watching people play video games, but that's mostly because I'm very bad at them, and still want to know how the game ends. I also find that watching people like the Game Grumps and Roosterteeth are a great way to spend an afternoon when I'm feeling down. Many of the people who play through video games on youtube are incredibly funny people, and I get enjoyment from there jokes.

This is the sad world we live in. We used to get entertainment from DOING things. going out and exploring the world. Moving our bodies, exercising our minds, and exploring the world. But now we get enjoyment from watching someone else. We are filled with joy when someone else exceeds on TV and yet we don't have the motivation to go out and achieve that joy ourselves. We justify our lack of achievement with the gratification of seeing someone else perform. and it's oh so very sad.

I used to do this all the time using Youtube until I acquired the means to play them myself. Now I'm saving for a properly decent gaming computer and using Youtube gamers as one way to do research before I buy.

Same, I've always done this. I remember as a kid watching my sister play Spyro, and I would be Sparx (just pretending) and tell her what parts of the level she missed etc. And when older i liked to watch my dad playing GTA.
