Is it normal that i think character leveling is for morons?

I hate how in certain games the character levels up in skills or gets a weapon upgrade instead of the person playing actually getting better. They are designed for children and people with limited mental capacity. I also hate how games tell you exactly how to get from point A to point B with a map and compass markers.

      That's like me saying, "I think having my nails done is a waste of time!" Of course you think games are a waste of time, you're a stereotype of a girl.

    I partly agree. Levels are an abstraction, that doesn't add much to the game in my opinion. It really just makes things easier for the developer. Quest markers are the same way. Without them they would have to go to more work to describe your objective. Like "The cave is near the road to Fort Brend, when you come to the fallen tree turn left and climb the hill, the entrance is behind some bushes on the other side." But instead they're just like "It's to the east, off you go!"

    However, character skills are an essential part of anything claiming to be a roll play game. Otherwise the only character you could play would be yourself.

    I don't play those sorts of games (I have no access to them), but without 'a map and compass markers' wouldn't you just be wandering around blind?
