Is it normal that i think that people can go to heaven regardless of religion?

The character limit wouldn't let me say what I really meant :(

So basically, I'm Christian, and I believe in heaven. I also believe that even if you're not Christian you can still go to heaven- I think it doesn't matter whether you're Jew, Muslim, Atheist or whatever, as long as you are a good person, I think you can go to heaven.

is it normal that I think that?

I believe the same! I mean, 3 of the major religions - Islam, Judaism, & Christianity - are very closely related. Especially considering the last 2 (simply bc I don't know much about Islam), where a majority of text is shared. But besides that, I would like to believe that God accepts good people, bc its possible to follow his word w/o ever having contact w/ Christianity.

Would God take to heaven a kind-hearted loving and charitable atheist, or a sinning Christian? I personally would hope both.

Okay, so I'm atheist/agnostic and I don't really believe in heaven or hell. Let's assume that it was real, and I were to die not believing in heaven. God would have to be a pretty big jerk for not letting me into heaven because I didn't believe in him.

That's like saying someone who doesn't believe in being burried after death isn't allowed to get burried. The cosmic forces can't just let select people who believe in heaven go to heaven. I don't think life (or afterlife) would be that unfair.

I hope so. I'm an atheist and I have friends from many religions. The idea that I could be allowed to meet them in the next life is very positive.

The idea that, in this life, they'd be open to the idea of me sharing their worldview after death, despite not believing it in life, is also very positive.

The idea of religion as non-proscriptive is very attractive to me. Then it becomes good people doing good things for no reward. I would happily sign up for that.

On the assumption that it does exist, I agree. I grew up in the church and I never quite understood how churches can degrade other religions. As long as you have faith in one God (or many...haven't given that one much thought but slam me), you should go to heaven. I'm pretty sure my cat will be the gatekeeper for hell and I'll be right along side her.

      Lol on the cat ;-)

Considering that each faith cannot even agree within itself what is right, can we really assume everyone else got it wrong? I mean, no one can even decide on a good bible translation!

I don't really believe in a Heaven or a Hell but I think that if there was to be a system of entrance then I would think it would like you mentioned. Good people go to Heaven, bad people go to Hell. However, I don't know where the boundary is between good and bad.

You have made an assumption based on your belief system. What if heaven and hell do not exist? What if heaven and hell are the same place? Where do the people go then?

    • If heaven and hell don't exist, then... well, that's it. There probably isn't anything after death. When you die, you die, that's it.
