I don’t understand what is so hard about just having healthy people as models. Why do we have this omnishambles of rail thin and obese women and steroid jacked 8-packed men when we could just show clothes on people of a realistic and attainable healthy size?
I’m starting to wonder if they deliberately show unhealthy and borderline impossible physiques just to stir controversy.
The point of body positivity was to end self-hatred not to glorify unhealthy lifestyles or deny medical knowledge but unfortunately those who deliberately misinterpret the message receive a lot of media coverage.
It's positive to a degree but yes it tends to normalize obesity and while obesity can be caused by many factors, and no one deserves bullying because of it but rather understanding and help, it shouldn't be promoted as something that it's okay not to try and change. Just like eating disorders that makes a person dangerously underweight should not be promoted either.
I have mixed feelings about it. Obesity isn't healthy (just like being very skinny) and shouldn't be encouraged, but I also don't think it should be bullied and those people have the right to feel beautiful. It's their health and their appearance, so not my business. However, I wish models were mostly of normal sizes, which are healthy and achievable for most people. There are mostly stick-skinny models and very obese models and nothing in-between. Body positivity could be a good movement, because it's important to feel good in your body and there's nothing wrong with looking "different" or being a bit too skinny or a bit chubby, but normalizing and glorifying very unhealthy weight isn't good.
Sure. We should promoting healthy bodies.
But the standard for models is also unrealistically skinny.
I feel the Body Positively movement has done a lot of good. Emaciated thin is not healthy; and in fact some fat on most bodies is often healthy (and produces nice curves on many females).
I feel it goes too far as promoting a lot of fat or obviously totally out of shape as positive.
I think you can underestimate the amount of pain and harm that comes from young people hating their body, for whatever reason. So, body positivity is a very necessary thing from this perspective.
But your question specifically relates to fat people. It probably goes too far in painting fatness as healthier than it is. But to be honest, I'm not sure people thinking being fat is healthy, is the problem. The problem is people being inactive and eating too much. So I'm not sure the body positivity movement, even in their over-the-top acceptance of obesity, is all that harmful. But I can understand why people find it so annoying.
I remember saying something similar in one of my old posts 8 months ago: https://www.isitnormal.com/post/in-my-opinion-we-should-stop-monetizing-obesity-295789
But yes we should stop lying to ourselves, that's why nobody should listen to the likes of Tess Holliday, Sonalee Rashatwar and the likes of Virgie Tovar and the other people who think it's ok to be abnormally fat. That's why in my opinion we should boycott fat body postivity because it has very negative effects such as death.
Sonalee is just UUUUGLY!
It ain't even about her weight, she just looks like she was beat with the ugly stick.
I mean, if you made yourself fat, and you can stop WHY NOT STOP? If you're born plus sized I understand but REALLY PEOPLE?
I agree, especially since it only applies to women. No girl wants to fuck a fat dude so no boy should have to settle for a whale either
Its surprising just how many guys want a girl they feel like they can break. Its crazy
Most dudes want DDs and a 20 inch waist but seeing as that’s pretty unrealistic, I’d rather be a washboard, at least I won’t have a heart attack at 40 🤷🏻♀️
That's probably true in America, but in Canada it doesn't really promote obesity. I think it still stays true to the "don't starve yourself to achieve some standard of beauty"
Yes. as a former (key word) fatass i think its dumb too. its not healthy to be fat nor is it attractive. deal with it.
Yes, I'm sorry if you are 300lbs you are not beautiful and you have nothing to be proud of.
