Is it normal that i think the cold-war seemed epic?

I dunno why, but I've always thought the cold-war seemed so damn epic and fascinating somehow. Nuclear fear, espionage, space-race, Rocky IV, etc. I never lived through it though, so I might just be romanticizing it.

Vietnam era was exciting times. Sex, drugs, and rock n roll. Lots of good music. Muhammad Ali. Nixon. Booming economy. Still had freedom. Was when America was America. Smoke cigarettes in elementary. Buy rocket launchers without a permit. Cheap land. Cheap gas. High paying jobs everywhere. Everything made in USA.

    • The fact that elementary-school kids used to smoke cigarettes seems so freaking insane from a 2022 perspective.

It is romanticism, but it's justified. History's just like that. I wouldn't actually want to live during that time, especially as a black man, but it sounds exciting when you read about it.

Not to mention McCarthyism and paranoia across the board

    • McCarthyism was basically the 1950s equivalent to PC-culture today.

PC-culture is fine. It's completely reasonable to demonize J.K. Rowling for not retroactively include trans characters in books she wrote decades ago. /s
