See your doctor and have a sleep study done. Maybe you have sleep apnea. Also ask to have some blood work done to see if you have a thyroid problem.

Are you serious? You're studying medicine but you haven't thought of researching a medical reason for your tiredness? I hope you're never my doctor!

The sleep apnea suggestion is a good one, you could also be anaemic or any number of things

I'm with Ellenna on this one. Go get 'em girl! Rose, my dear, this jerk is studying medicine; most of it's teachers ARE doctors. One would think this poster wouldn't have to 'go' far to find any kind of doctor in a med school!
This one just isn't smart enough to be a doctor if it thinks it can get better info on IIN, than at school.

No, you idiot, not be a doctor, see or speak to a doctor. Aren't there any doctors at your medical school?

What, your patient? No way! Sorry, but I don't understand the mentality of someone studying to be a doctor who comes here for medical advice. Maybe it's the lack of sleep affecting you?

Seriously though, get yourself to a doctor: this sort of tiredness is a sign something's wrong and it's very dangerous if you're driving a car in that state.

Go to a sleep centre and get a sleep study done. This could be due to your diet or it could be a standalone health condition.

  • I have this problem but worse. I normally sleep about 16 hours a day. I've tried the normal sleep schedule and I cannot stay awake.
I took a sleep study a few years ago and was diagnosed with sleep apnea and hypersomnia. Narcolepsy was suspected too but the hypersomnia dx is more of a general catch all diagnosis for oversleeping and trouble staying awake.
My sleep problem has been treated with a breathing maching while sleeping and stimulants during the day. While the treatment helps a lot I am still signifantly effected by it.

low iron levels??? depression?? some people just need more sleep...exercise can actually help raise energy levels as well.

I definitely am tired too much of the time. But Ive had mono and I take meds which are probably the cause.
If you don't have a 'real" reason Id get thoroughly checked out because its not fun to go through life in a state of semi-consciousness.
