Is it normal that it pisses me off when people make their tea in the microwave?

I mean, it just doesn't produce a good result. D: It's not THAT hard to boil water...

To be fair I don't like apple pie, beer or peanut butter & jelly sandwiches either thus branding me a blasphemer in the eyes of my fellow Americans.

I can agree with beer. Most of our beer sucks.

You have not sampled enough of the craft brewers...

I don't drink alcohol. My wife does and is from Eastern Europe. She likes several beers from some of the craft brewers, and shares them with her friends from Europe.

That being said I'm not a fan of beer in general. One exception is japanese beer. Asahi super dry being one of them. Bitter as heck but you cant taste the alcohol so it works for me.

Real uniform hot water is best.

I have made tea by heating a cup of water in a microwave to boiling, and then adding the teabag. That works for black teas.

However the best solution is the teapot I purchased for my wife that has 5 temperatures (150 F - 212 F) depending on the type of tea, and then holds the temperature. Example: Green teas are usually best made with 165F water.

My wife totally loves that teapot... along with the many varieties of high quality tea I buy for her,

I suppose it depends. I heard that burnt caffeine is poisonous and carcinogenic, so if someone decides to microwave tea that contains caffeine, such as green tea, they should be careful and make sure it doesn't burn.

I’m in complete agreement, microwaved tea is heated unevenly and tastes more “compressed and artificial” to me.

The fact that this is under 90% normal is a crime and I’ll be writing to Scotland Yard and Her Majesty herself as soon as I finish this comment.

So you believe that water which has been heated to 100°C in a microwave is qualitatively different to water that's been heated to boiling in a kettle?

    • I mean, it is though. Microwave chicken tenders and run others through an oven, you'll see which tastes better. I've used those hot water faucets on commercial coffee brewers to make ramen and it tastes better than microwaving it.

Microwaves work by agitating sub-molecular particles, creating an artificial heat through frictional heat diffusion by increasing the vibrations of the atoms of whatever's in there

There are a lot of different ways to cook things that cook them differently, in ways that can benefit or diminish them as well

I agree with your point though, it is a little pedantic to think of oneself as too good to never accept microwaved tea

Uhh...no lol. The entire method of pouring over boiling water simply results in a superior end result most of the time. For me anyway. I'm not gonna get fancy about it lol

I'm sure it's possible to make good tea in the microwave, but why bother? Your cup is gonna get all hot, if it has any gold paint hiding on it somewhere it'll start sparking and scare the fuck outta you, different microwaves operate differently and give different results...yada-yada.

Plus the people I know won't even heat their freakin' water to boiling in the microwave. They'll heat up bags of black tea in there too, which results in it getting all bitter and gross.

Basically I just have strong opinions about meaningless things lol

Well, as long as you know they're meaningless things, that's cool.

But you might wanna try to take a little step back if you see someone making their tea in a microwave and you start feeling the urge to sort out their poor kitchen decisions with a Molotov cocktail.

  • Would your stomach feel cold and empty if I said I microwaved ramen? 😈
