Is it normal that me and my girlfriend hate each other's taste in music?

My girlfriend loves listening to Hiphop and rap music, but I absolutely despise it. I love listening to rock music and heavy metal, but she hates it. I find this situation a bit complicated. :/

This post sorta reminds me of myself, when I first met my girlfriend at one point we both hated each others taste of music I at first hated her taste of music ( her taste consists of K-pop, J-pop, pop music and so on. ), but as soon as months went by I decided to live with it because I felt like I needed to respect her tastes, we eventually got into metal ( this was after I had introduced her to Slipknot and System Of A Down ), trust me as someone who has been in that situation I would agree to some extent it can be complicated.

I would suggest introducing her to your taste of songs but don't expect her to like all of it.

It’s normal to have different tastes but if you 2 want to have a serious relationship you’re going to have to at least tolerate each other’s likes/dislikes. I’m in a bicultural marriage and I like classical music, while my wife like Latino music. I’ve grown to like some of it, and I’ve gotten her to go to classical concerts. She loved Andrea Bocceli because he even sang a couple Spanish songs. It’s a compromise.

My last boyfriend loved rap I hated it but even though I never liked it I let him listen to it because I knew it made him happy and even poked fun at the lyrics by teasing him and he actually liked several of my indie rock bands I let him listen to so it was all good fun. Music taste is tough imo because you have to get lucky to have the same taste and my partner before him had the exact same taste as me in everything even the same favorite obscure bands no one knew and yeah I miss that but if you love someone that's not so big of a deal in the grand scheme of things

Yeah I find it very difficult to come across people with good taste in music to be honest. I'm an extreme music nerd though, and a lot of people only listen to "easily available" music which is crap that's popular and everyone listens to and they never bother to see what's actually out there. To me that's insane, they don't even realize what worlds they're missing out on. If my partner merely enjoyed a genre I didn't though but they listened to actual talented artists in that genre I wouldn't mind personally and we could share with each other songs from our separate favorite genres that we think the other person could appreciate. I don't like rap either but i've definietely come across some rap songs that were actually quite good. I'm open to almost any genre though, as there's always artists who are extremely gifted within their field.
