Is it normal that my art got stolen?

When I was in my early 20's jackasses from DeviantArt stole my work and sent their goons to harass me. Since they were kids, I kind of just closed the account and walked away from that mess.

Mid 20's it was a dude on Etsy. I got him to stop selling it with a simple message. It was a brand new adult who apparently didn't know better.

Now here I am in my 30's and now some jackass company is selling my art on a shirt on their website. One would think a larger company would know better, but NOPE! My boyfriend said I should consult a lawyer since this isn't some small fry stuff and they're apparently known for this crap. I'm thinking about it.

    You might want to check where the company is set up. A lot of companies that blatantly do this are either located in Brazil or China; places that don't necessarily care about American and European copyright laws.

    I do think that it's unfortunate. A lot of the artists I have commissioned in the past seem to have this issue.

    Make sure to watermark your art to shit when you post them online. Not in the corner or smth just a 50% opacity watermark over the entire thing.

      I second this! People have no problem cropping out watermarks, so this is about the only way to ensure that doesn't happen.

    This is common (and unfortunate). Check the country of origin. If its in what are considered the "western" countries then contact a lawyer as you actually have a good chance of winning your case.

    If its China... there is no chance to win there.

    People created a whole group on facebook just to harass me and they were stealing my art too and making memes and stupid childish edits out of it.

    Aw I'm sorry to hear that. I'd be pretty insulted and angry if I saw a piece of mine on some brands products.

    Unfortunatley you have to weigh up geting a lawyer and potentially losing the case verses the cash you would receive. Maybe you could shock them into a cash setlement before a lengthy trial.
