Is it normal that my boss complimented me twice today?

So today, I went to work as usual. When one of my managers saw me, he struck up a conversation as he normally does, and then proceeded to compliment me on my hair. (Keep in mind I normally curl my hair and he had never seen me with it straight before). I said thank you, and we moved on. About five minutes later, he complimented me on my shoes. (Also keep in mind they were new and had never worn them to work before that day). So my question is, was that completely normal and am I reading too much into it? Or was it weird that my male boss noticed two things about me that guys don't normally notice about girls, and then gave me compliments on both?
