Is it normal that my boss likes to throw stuff at people?

I work in An IT dept for a billion dollar company, The VP of the IT dept. likes to throw things at people, mainly fruit/apples. One time he threw an $800 touchscreen monitor at someone. For some reason he vocally discusses what fruit to throw at me, he recommended a banana, A BANANA... IS THIS NORMAL?

Make sure he understands that if he throws it and you catch it you get to keep it!

Sounds like the boss from hell! Are you in a union? They could help, because that sort of behaviour is unacceptable anywhere, let alone a workplace.

Can you secretly film him having this dangerous tantrums? That would be good evidence to take your complaints further up the hierarchy and hopefully get some action taken.

I don't know where you live but in Australia if a worker left after such treatment s/he could take legal action for constructive dismissal and get damages. There are labor lawyers here who specialise in this sort of action: do you have a community legal centre you could consult? I guess if you're in the US it's going to be a lot harder for you.

My manager has said on occasion that we should get him on tape, he is making a lot of people miserable... it's kind of a mind fuck to think you can get bullied as an adult, but it's more like a hostage situation, I'm just going to get what I need from the job and leave. Maybe I will report stuff on the way out but dude is really at the top of the company hierarchy, in America people in those positions have to almost killed someone to be dethroned and even then, some of those fuckery get away with that shit

No, America is anti union, companies go through great lengths to block them.

They do here too, of course they would because bosses want weak compliant scared workers, but surely it's not illegal to belong to one and get help in this sort of situation? Unions are only as powerful as their membership and they're not perfect, but who else looks after workers?

Ppl that I know in unions seem to enjoy great pay and benefits, others try to knock it but I don't know anyone who gave up a union job, at least not willingly.

Yeah, all I think about is the glorious day which I put in my 2 weeks, 2 guys have quit recently and named him as one of the reasons but nothing has changed. You know what the worst part is... he is the EEO officer, the person you go to when some is harassing you FML!

use someone else from your work instead of the grade a asshole and dafuk outta there. Seriously use a colleague or a friend and put there private number down. I had to do this a couple of times because my one boss was crazy and there was no way I was putting that bitch down as a reference.

Mosdef, no way I would use him as a reference... he doesn't actually throw stuff at me, the first time he did it I gave him the most menacing stare down I could muster. But he continues to pretend like he is going to. I want to beat his face in, on some bully shit. He throws things at others constantly and it angers me, I can't believe this shit is really going on in this day and time. Thought I left crap like this back in high school but I guess it will always be there
