Your freakin' dog doesn't "have depression," there's something physically wrong with it. Either take it to the vet and have it checked out or if you can't afford a vet visit, you'll just have to wait for nature to take its course.

How was he/she "self harming?" Just curious. That sounded a bit exaggerated.

My mom has worked in a pharmacy, and some people bought prescriptions for their dogs. Some are on human meds, like Zantex, Prozac, etc. Maybe your dog needs meds.

According to the Dog Whisperer, Cesar Milan, (which I watch ALL the time) you gotta take him for walks. Put his mind going forward. This may sound stupid but he also says if his tail is down, lift it up like he is happy. Together after time he will be happy.

    Try it.

Yep they can't self harm, think you stretched it too far with that one.

But animals can actually have mental illness issues just like humans can.

    Proven fact.

I had a crazy dog. He had a problem of attacking when you fed him. And it wasn't like he was ever starved. He just freaked out around food. I remember having to put him on a chain and pushing his bowl towards him with a stick to keep out of reach. I lied to my parents when he bit me because I knew that meant he would have to go. He had already attacked three neighbors. But he was a fun dog to play with, smart, and usually well behaved. He just had a mean side that would come out when food was involved. It started to leak into other realms.

Dogs actually do suffer from low mood. But they don't self-harm. Nice try.
