Is it normal that my friends think scientology is a real religion?

A couple of my friends used to be atheists but they have since become Scientologists and they are trying to convert me to join them. They keep saying how great it is and how it changed their life. I'm still not convinced that it is a real religion.

    It is a religion and you people think modern passive "turn the other cheek" Christians are bad... You don't know jack shit about Scientology other then Tom Cruise is an admitted member of it.

    It's only moderately less "real" than any other religion. Give it a thousand years or so and it'll be just as respectable.

    There are quite a few celebrities who are very much into that stuff, Tom Cruise and John Travolta to name just two.
    L. Ron Hubbard was also a prolific sci fi writer, with a ten volume series called, Mission Earth.
