My mom bought a Panasonic plasma-tv in early 2007, it's been used every day since then, and it still works perfectly. It shows no signs of aging apart from the outdated design. Is that weird or not? I mean, people always say flatscreen-TVs don't last as long as CRT, but apparently that claim is bullshit.
Hey I bought a Sharp Aquos in 2004 and just moved it to my vacation home to play YouTube vids on a Firestick but before that it still worked great. I just wanted to upgrade to a 4K tv.
The main issue with older televisions at this point is that they don't have the features most would expect them to have. Internet connectivity is a must feature have for many people due to cable television falling out of favor.
They used to make TVs a lot better; the era of the disposable crapware TV is only the last 10ish years. I had a 32" Sony with a picture tube, weighed about 300 lbs, for 20+ years - it would not die. Like the terminator. I finally reached a point where I was too old to move the damn thing, and I expect it's out there somewhere today still, working perfectly.
I've bought 3 plasma tv in the last 6 years. The first I broke it by throwing the remote control at it, didn't mean to throw at the tv but things happen.
My CRT TV is 30 years old and I love watching it! It's also cool looking (especially since it's a console with a nice wood encasing that goes well with the rest of my house). My flat screen is only 2 years old right now, but hopefully will last as long as yours!
I used to have an old antenna CRT TV with the dial, but I think my family threw it out when it still worked. 😭 Wish I still had that one as well! The silver CRT TV that replaced it only lasted a few years, not sure why.
Not sure what the average lifespan of either kind of TV is, but I think 15+ years is pretty good and as long as it still works and you like it, keep enjoying it! No reason not to!
