Is it normal that my wife spends all her time with a duck?

My wife found that duck abandoned when he was a little duckling and insisted on bringing him home. I obliged, because really, who would leave a little duckling just lying around, waiting for something to eat it? We brought it home with us, it grew up (very quickly, of course) and the thing follows my wife around everywhere (even to the shower!!!) and until I bought a second mattress, the duck hogged the bed as well. My wife and I used to do a lot of things with the neighbors and with our friends, but nowadays whenever they call or we ask if she'd like to do something, she declines in favor of spending time with the duck, because she fears it will get lonely. She works from home so that she doesn't have to leave the duck, and I think the fact that we can't have children might be having an effect, because my wife wanted kids but is infertile. IIN?

I used to give my neighborhood ducks popcorn when I lived in South Florida.

One of you should have sex with the duck and produce human-fowl hybrids.

You just wait till YOUR significant other chooses a dumb animal over you. Then come back and tell us how insensitive everyone is.

Your last sentence pretty much summed up why her behavior is normal. Perhaps you can offer to hire some sort of pet sitter so you two can go back to going out and having fun?

Absolutely normal - especially for a woman who wants but can't have children. The duck has become a surigate child for her. If it were a dog or a cat, most people would be more understanding (as these are more common pets).

Perhaps you could consider getting a second duck, to keep the first company? This might encourage your wife to re-engage socially with the rest of the world.

She is an animal lover. Like me!! But maybe you should tell her that she is spending too much time with Mr. Quackers.

Get another duck to keep the first one from being lonely and see if she comes up with some other excuse

ducks are not a good substitute for real children. if you want a pet get a dog or cat.

Ducks bond very strongly to other ducks, people and other animals. I love ducks!
