Is it normal that people do this?

I just cannot understand people who walk into a room you are in, and then tell you what you are doing. Like wtf?

Example:
Man walks into room.
Man: "Hi John"
John: "Hi Man"
Man looks at John for a second.
Man: "Ah, you're making yourself a sandwich"
John's ears go purple.

Why do people feel the need to do this? As if this little golden nugget of information that I already knew is going to add some sort of meaning to my day. I know I'm making a sandwich, you fucking rehab!

Are you one of these people? Does anyone know anyone like this?

So common it's normal for socially awkward people to do this: my old mum used to read out road signs on trips, I realise now just to fill the tense silences between her and my dad.

It's what little kids do, too, describe the world around them and what people are doing: maybe adults do this are developmentally delayed?

I suggest a response as silly as the question, as in "No I'm not, I'm baking a cake".

It is not normal for your ears to turn purple, also this has never happened to me not normal.

It's simply a normal conversation starter for those who don't have a topic ready, but really feeling that urge to talk to someone. Everyone does it or has done this at some point in their life.

Anyway, if you answer with a "yeah," 70% of the time the next question will be, "Ah, what kind of sandwich are you making?!" or something like that. The other 30% would probably throw a pie in your face.
