Is it normal that people nowadays are so anti-children?

Not sure if this is a new phenomenon, but to me it seems like there is a strong anti-children sentiment in society nowadays.

I think many people exaggerate the hatred towards children, just because they aren't perfectly behaved yet and require some care. They aren't that bad and its just how kids naturally are, we have to tolerate some inconveniences in this world. But I think it should be personal choice whether to have children or not and not everyone is suited for it.

I was having a similar conversation with someone:The post was something like this question: do you agree that LGBT is acceptable?
Me: I don't disagree, but I'd think that it's not good. Because of biology. How are you increasing the population if you're doing that?1: Why do you want the population increased?Me: If it decreases, then one day humans might get extinct. As humans, our fundamental goal is surviving, for which we did everything we did till now.1: First of all, we have hell of a lot more than enough people. Second of all, humans need to go extinct, and it's going to happen one day no matter what you do. Third of all, it will be meaningless when humans go extinct.2: okay let's start with you then if you want us to go extinctMe: It's true that it will happen one day, but our job is to not let that happen soon. We have to avoid it as much as we can. I mean we have to try our best. And we cannot kill ourselves while knowing that we are killing ourselves.1: We have plenty of enough humans already, we do not need more. As a matter of fact, we have more than enough. 😂😂 but if you want more humans (even though we have enough) so bad how about you be the one to make more instead of trying to force other people to do it. Desperate for more humans? How about you get your lazy ass up, and make 10,000 babies.Me: Here's the thing: we have many people now, that's true. But if we don't take any more, then the total number will drop as the older generation dies. Let's assume everyone who will have children will take 2 children (some will take 1 some will take 3. 1+3=4=2+2). If 1/4 of people don't have children, then total drops to from 8B to 6B. We have so many people now because the previous generation didn't do this. But if we do this, then population collapse is inevitable. We should remember that as people are being added, people are also being subtracted (dying).Still waiting for a further reply from that person. So will update.

I think the taboo of deliberately not reproducing has declined a bit. I’ve never wanted children and when I announced this to my class aged 11 every child was shocked and horrified now at 25 when it occasionally comes up only about 50% of people care.

I find children loud and annoying and don’t see the “cuteness” others seem to but as there will (probably) be an endless conveyor belt of them my whole life I try to see the comedy in them.

Tbh from my pov, in my environment, birth is not so much as a planned situation as it is an oops situation.

Like the Dad in Fighting with My Family said, “All pregnancies are unplanned.”

Have you seen any opinion survey results from credible sources which support your perception?

If not, then you might want to think about a form of cognitive bias that's been called the frequency illusion, frequency bias or the Baader–Meinhof phenomenon. Basically, simply being newly aware of the existence of something can create the illusion that it is suddenly appearing more often.

It has been suggested that the frequency illusion is due to a combination of selective attention bias (our tendency to notice stuff that's meaningful to us and disregard everything else) and confirmation bias (our tendency to pay close attention to anything that supports our beliefs about the world and do our best to explain away any evidence that's in conflict with those beliefs).

    I think it's 50/50 some want them some don't

  • I haven't noticed that.
Maybe those people who don't want kids are more vocal about it nowadays. As a woman especially there's always pressure to have children and other women trying to convince you of it and even being rude about it. That causes some people rebel against it.

I don't think it's necessarily an increase of people that don't want them. It's just becoming more socially acceptable for people to not want kids. (Woman in particular have been pressured by society into having kids until fairly recently.)

Look at the number of men throughout history who got their significant other pregnant then abandoned them to avoid the responsibility. Plenty of child abuse cases are from parents forced to take care of a child they didn't want.

Decided at the age of 8 that I didn't want children and never wavered. Don't like the brats anyway.

It used to be normal to beat children with sticks and that's now illegal in decent places, so I think we actually like children *more* these days.

Most people I've seen who are anti children aren't mentally or financially stable enough to raise a child. That's a good thing that they're not trying to have kids. I live in a ghetto area and have seen kids grow up in that type of environment. The kids mostly just end up growing up into fucked up adults who repeat the same mistakes their parents made.

I think a lot of people today are just don't want the responsibility of children.

    • No not everyone, but a lot of people, more than it used to be, hate children nowadays.

It's racial. White people are dying out. In another 40 years, yellow people and brown people will follow the trend. Black people will always reproduce at high rates.
