Is it normal that random customers comment on my height

I’m a 19 year old girl, I’m exactly 5 foot tall and I work in a shop. I’ve been there for about 6 months and I only work about 8 hours a week there and during that time I’ve had about 4 or 5 customers who I’ve never met before make a comment about my height.

They don’t make it either positive or negative, they just sort of announce it like “you’re really short” and I just kind of have to awkwardly laugh it off like thanks mate, I’d never realised that before.

I think the average woman in the UK is about 5’3 so I’m short but I don’t think I’m so weirdly short that people just can’t help but mention it when they see me in public. My height is the only thing about my body or the way I look that I’ve ever really been insecure about and it just feels a bit weird that strangers think they’re in a position to comment on my body like that.

When I’m at uni or just going out I’ll usually wear 3-4 inch heels to avoid such comments so work is the only place it really happens.

If it had just happened once I’d just thing maybe that person was a bit of a fucking weirdo but it’s happened quite a few times by now. I just feel like if you wouldn’t walk into a shop and call the cashier fat, why would you call them short?

It's something that stupid people do. I've seen it happen to especially tall people as well.

Imagine being so fucking dumb that you literally say the first thing that pops into your head when you look at someone.

I’d love to be short. I’m 5ft 8 so if I want to wear my killer heels I’m over 6 foot.

Customers tell me all the time that im so tall cause I'm 6'1. It gets to you.

Short's not seen as an insult for a woman, fat is. They do sound a bit autistic though; it's an odd thing to say.

I voted for normal, but only because I didn’t finished your paragraph and meant it like it’s normal to be shorter than average and it’s not normal to say that out loud... everyone has something which others could laugh at or judge it, either on the outside or inside.

People say obvious things all the time. You don't have the frame of reference of it happening all the time. When I worked fast food I had a short co worker and I would say it was a daily thing.

If it were me, I'd feel a bit awkward around when someone says it.
