Is it normal that so many people are having autistic kids?

Some people blame vaccines or the environment. But so far we don't have concrete proof of anything.

What happened?

autistic people and add people were always there. They were abused or put in mental institutions or ended up homeless instead of helping them.

we didn't talk about things.people bottled everything up which led to loads of other problems. Everything was your fault. If you dared to talk about anything unpleasant people thought you were rude or crazy.

Causation is hard to prove. I'd argue that diagnostics are what have actually changed. Doctors are more aware of autism, and are capable of easily recognizing the symptoms. However, that goes hand in hand with a propensity to over-diagnose a specific disorder.

People tend to mix up correlation and causation; that's how the whole stupid anti-vax movement got started, when the answer could just be as simple as diagnostic criteria evolving.

Look at the increasing frequency of ADD and ADHD diagnoses...are those caused by vaccines too? Yeah, no.

I doubt the numbers have changed significantly its probly just getting diagnosed more kinda like 24 hr cable news there are still the same number of wars and natural disasters but they need to report on something so they blast it at us all the time so it seems like more.

I think it has to do more with the increase in diagnoses, and a increased knowledge of it, and ability to pick it out, its like most Syndromes and diseases, they have always been, just easier to find a case now

I recently heard about one theory that ADHD and similar conditions are exacerbated by blue screen usage so this could also be a cause. There's also evidence now that bluescreens affect how the brain functions, including causing or exacerbating sleep disorders.

There's also the issue of over diagnosis: a little girl I know well was thought to be on the autism spectrum because her personality is very outgoing and she's physically and mentally very active - "like a boy" commented one childcare "expert". That's just her personality and I love her for it just as she is.

You sure seem to be on a don't sleep with a screen on thing lately whats up with that? I've fallen asleep either listening to music or watching something on a screen most nights for the last 10 years and I don't have any sleep disorders. Most of the time I get by fine on 6 hours or so and I occasionally binge sleep for 10 hours if I've had a string of hard days and I finally get some time off. I've never noticed any problem with my sleep.

Nothing dramatic, just passing on information which I know has helped other people and never suggested it applies to everyone. I too sleep with music or talk on the radio most nights and I think that's different from the bluescreens. Anyway, as I said I never believed it was universal
