Is it normal that soundtrack is my favorite genre of music?

In general, I don't think popular music is very good. But lately, whenever I watch a movie or a TV show, I notice the soundtrack and generally think it sounds pretty cool, much better than what passes for popular music these days. Do any of you feel the same way? What are some of your favorite soundtracks?

When I think of soundtracks that stand out two movies really come to mind:The Collector, and Interstellar. The Collector's soundtrack is just one thing that sets it apart from generic slashers and Interstellar's soundtrack is as heart-breaking as it is captivating.

do you mean soundtracks as in songs, or film scores? or both?

I'm too hyperaware of soundtracks, to the point that often a score will grab all of my attention, distracting me from other stuff going on in the movie/show/game.

top 4 favorite scores... probably The Hours, Breaking of the Fellowship, Molossus, and Theme (by Jon Brion)

I listen to movie and game soundtracks as well! Some of the movie ones I love: LOTR trilogy, The Dark Knight, Tron Legacy, chronicles of Narnia (first one), also Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. It sounds silly but the soundtrack is actually pretty good.

Game soundtracks I like: Ōkami, the Halo games, and Shadow of the Colossus. I'm probably forgetting some but oh well.

Soundtrack isn't a genre because it can be absolutely any kind of music, as for my favourite soundtrack, it has to be drive, followed by a girl walks home alone at night, any film that has a 3 minute long shot accompanied by post punk revival is on the same wavelength as me completely

That's the best endorsement I've ever heard.

I'd seriously recommend it, one of the best films I've seen in years and that scene in particular is one of my favourite moments in cinema
