Is it normal that when a hear a woman speaking with voice fry, it annoys me a great deal? I can't stand the sound that they make when they do this. I don't understand how any guy could date a woman who does this. I would want to punch her in the throat. (Not really, but I would want to). Do these woman think it's cute or sexy?

Voice fry also known as pulse register is a type of vocalization that isn't an individual's normal speaking voice. It is an affectation usually utilized by young women who mimic others who also utilize it. It can eventually become a habit.
What they don't realize is that this type of vocalization can hinder them during interviews, in relationships and on the job and more. It makes a women appear not as confident, or intelligent and also immature. Many find it just plain annoying as do I.
You can see how it is a generational phenomena just by listening to older women or watching older movies. These women don't use voice fry and as a result they have beautiful voices as you mentioned. Some elderly women develop a raspiness to their voices which is pathological, not voice fry.
Men do it to because there is a guy on one of the local radio stations that talks like that sometimes and I want to snap his neck when I hear it lol, also there is a middle aged woman on another station that also does it and when she does it I want to smack her in the gob. Freaking annoying.
sorry to tell you this but, in my experience, most people that others assume are using vocal fry are actually just speaking in their real, natural voices. not everyone has a "conventional" voice, which is actually pretty beautiful, when you think about it. :)
