Is it normal that when i drink.

I just noticed yesterday, that when I'm sober I eat ALL DAY LONG. I can never get full or something. But wen I do drink, I won't eat before I drink, only afterwards until I'm ready to go to bed.

I don't consider myself an alcoholic because I don't need to drink everyday but I do drink about 5 days a week.

Is it normal to have this eating pattern?

I like to have something to eat when I drink. Part of the Bulgarian tradition. You sit down with a drink with family and friends and you have to have "meze".

It's alcohol snacks... Salami, ham, cheese, fish, salad, smoked meats... It has to be a bit salty so it compliments the drink and makes you drink more.

Whenever I get back from work, I always get some meze and have a few beers until my girlfriend gets back from university, while watching stuff on tv. Then at dinner, I'd have 2-3 more beers.

It's how my parents have been doing drinking for the past 38 years. Not gonna change that tradition XD

I only voted normal because when I do drink I forget to or don't feel like eating.

I'm thinking the other 75% who voted are questioning your alcoholism...

I voted not normal because it's not normal to eat all day long or right before bed.

Only O.P can diagnose themselves as an alcoholic.

Ok everyone voted me off the page because why? To be an alcoholic according to the DSM at least 3 of these need to be present:

"At least three of the following criteria should have been present during the past 12 months:

Alcohol tolerance: The person needs a large quantity of alcohol to feel intoxicated. However, when the liver is damaged and cannot metabolize the alcohol so well, this tolerance may drop. Damage to the central nervous system may also reduce tolerance levels.

Withdrawal symptoms: When the individual abstains from alcohol or cuts down, they experience tremors, insomnia, nausea, or anxiety. They may drink more to avoid these symptoms.

Beyond intentions: The person drinks more alcohol, or over a longer period, than they intended.

Unsuccessful attempts to cut down:The person is continuously trying to cut down alcohol consumption but does not succeed. They may have a persistent desire to cut down.

Time consumed: The person spends a lot of time obtaining, using, or recovering from alcohol consumption.

Withdrawal: The individual withdraws from recreational, social, or occupational activities that they previously participated in.

Persistence: The person continues consuming alcohol, even though they know it is harming them physically and psychologically."

Only 2 of them are not up to the indiviual. So by definition only the individual can define themselves as alcoholic. What don't you peeps understand?

        • I get what your saying, I dunno why everyone is thumbs down you, but yet majority of them said its not normal to me anyhow.
But I see there are comments saying that I am an alcoholic but I really would like to say otherwise.

Tolerance: I will say honestly is normal, but how I act when drinking compared to others (IMO) if I'm with friends I'm the mom of the group.

Withdrawal: I experience none of that.

Beyond Intentions: don't quite understand that one. Do they mean I drink more (unaware) to get drunk? If so then no, ik my limits with certain drinks.

Unsuccessful Attempts: I will agree 😂😂 because if my friends invite me out, I'm going! I could be like imma juss chill today and do nothing. Later that night I getta call.. Zoom zoom out the door cuz being inna house was boring.

Time: I have had all nighters when drinking, I have had a whole day to recover from hangovers.

Withdrawal: I'm still the same. I still do what I need/want to do.

Persistence: not to be a smartass but everyone knows alcohol isn't healthy, just like cigarettes. So not quite sure of the actual meaning on that one

But that's why I don't think I am an alcoholic. I don't need to drink everyday, and when I don't drink I'm not about to have a mental breakdown. I just do it kinda of a social thing after work or on off days...

The sugar in most alcoholic drinks can affect your appetite, but it's not healthy to drink without eating as well. Apart from anything else you'll get drunker on an empty stomach.

That's a myth. Having an empty stomach will speed up the absorbtion but it won't make you more drunk. What you ingest is what you ingest as far as alcohol is concerned. An empty stomach will get you drunk faster. One could argue, since having a full stomach slows the absorbtion, you'll actually drink more and become more inebriated since you won't feel the effects right away.
