Is it normal that whenever my laptop makes a noise i have a fear that...

Sometimes my computer will suddenly make a weird beep or a something or other that I don't immeadiately pinpoint the source of, and I'll literally start to panic, full out. I think it's some part because I usually mute my computer(possibly because of this), but I'll close everything and then spend a good fifteen minutes coming up with situations (e.g. somebody planted a bug to track my keystrokes or my computer's going to detonate) whilst being completely frozen in my seat. This usually strikes when I'm alone, and I'm wondering if anybody else has this weird thingo.
