Is it normal this one-sided childhood rivalry

When I was in middle school and upto highschool I used to always top my grade consistently. However there was always this girl in my class whose mom worked in the school and she was very competitive wanting her daughter to take first place. At the time I just enjoyed learning and my position. I only competed with myself and I still do. The other girl never proved to come close to my scores and made it to 2nd place but she managed to be chosen by the teachers as president and me deputy president of the school. I left that school to move to a better highschool but people have the idea that we were rivals and are still comparing me to her, even my mom became this pageant mom... It really annoyed me and now highschool is over the people at her school still keep tabs on me. I don't care because I'm my own person and really don't want to be updated with her boring life as my mom still feels the need to do. I just want to know if this kind of one-sided rivalry on her part is normal...
