Is it normal to actually love cats?

I like cats. Like I actually love cats. Not just "yeah cats are cool I guess" but I legitimately love cats. Every cat I've ever met ended up liking me. Even the ones that were claimed to be "assholes." I'm really good with cats. The cat I got about 2 years ago, a Birman, loves me like crazy. I LOOOVE him like a baby. I legitimately like cats a bit better than dogs and I couldn't live without my cat. Is that normal? Literally everyone I know HATES cats, even the cat owners I know only "kinda like" cats and even they think cats are heartless and selfish. With me, I actually LOVE my cat like someone would love their dog, and people are often confused when they see how affectionate my cat is. "Why isn't he attacking me by now? Why is he actually cuddling? Is he PURRING?"
I'm the only one I know that actually loves cats. Usually people love dogs and have very indifferent feelings about cats. Is it normal to actually love cats and to be loved by cats? I respect my cat and NEVER annoy him.

  • I have two cats and I love them more than anything and I consider them my children. I also have a way with cats as well. They fit well with my demeanor and lifestyle. I love cats and dogs the same but for a pet I'd prefer cats.

I love cats because of their independence but I haven't had one for years because they do kill lots of native wildlife, I wouldn't want to have a cat confined to the house and I can't afford to build an outdoor cat run.

However, after not being a dog person my whole life I've had a dog for a bit more than five years and for unconditional love you can't beat a dog and I love her to bits & couldn't imagine my life without her

Very normal. I'm definitely a dog person, though despite the fact that I grew up with cats and one even lives with me now. All the cats that I've ever known have been sweet, but I'm still not really a fan of them... Not sure why, maybe they're just too independent for me.

I dislike all domesticated animals, having to deal with the sort of stupidity and behaviour of everyone around me is enough without them killing rats and leaving them at my door.

Cats are the most tolerable though. I think they are absolutely adorable, I just don't like having them around.

Some breeds don't hunt like ragdolls and persians. They let birdies sit on their heads.
