Is it normal to always check when he was last seen online

There is this guy and we text all the time and I always feel the urge to check when he was last online even if our previous conversation ended quite normally and I never have the balls to text him first but I just feel this urgent need to just view his status and get so excited when he changes his profile image. Is this normal?
