I sometimes have to travel for work, much of which requires me to drive a few hours at a time. A couple years ago I stopped at a rest stop in Reno, NV because I needed to take my daily dump. As I sat down, I heard the guy in the stall next to mine spraying diarrhea and farting ridiculously loudly, which had a powerful pungent odor. I asked him for a courtesy flush to help with the stench emanating through the men's room. However, instead of flushing, he told me to "go fuck myself" and that I should mind my own business.

Is it normal to ask the guy in the stall next to me for a courtesy flush?

    I too will flush even if no one else is in the restroom because I assume people will enter soon enough. As for asking for a courtesy flush, I wouldn't do it. It's not that you're in the wrong, it's just people will be offended and possibly feel quite embarrassed and take out their anger on you. So for your safety, I wouldn't.

    I've never heard of that, but if I'm taking a shit and somebody is in the next stall I will flush without being asked, just for his sake. I mean, I know my shit doesn't stink, but he might disagree with me. So if somebody asked I'm sure I would flush for him!

    Damn thats rough. I would have done something awful to that guy like on my way out of the stall i would have tossed over a poop or piss stained wad of toilet paper right on top of him. What an asshole

    When I was in high school, my track team rented a nice bus to drive us to a meet 3 hours away. The driver stayed in the bus while it was parked and let us on and off the bus. This bus had a bathroom in the back and one of the sprinters took a shit after the bus had arrived at the destination. The bus driver got so upset because the entire bus now stunk. He yelled that we should be using the public toilets! I guess he should have made that clear when he first parked...

    That stinks in more ways then one! Some people are just rude. I hang out in the lounge at at truck stop many nights. The lounge is outside the mens room, and at times someone's stink makes its way out. The other truckers always abuse the culprit! If your taking a dump, have the sense to courtesy flush!

    Wow, how rude. I'm sorry you had to deal with that, OP. Next time, just bring some air freshener to get rid of the odors. Then you won't have to deal with this again.
