Is it normal to ask yes or no questions and not get yes or no response?

When you ask a yes or no question does it really piss you off when the answer you get is just jabbering jibberish full of nothing but words and talk? People just can't answer yes or no. You never get the answer you wanted in the end.

In my opinion, I can see this being an issue but only for the impatient. If someone right now asked me "Do you like songs by this artist? Yes or no", I would answer "Well, I don't know that artist since I don't keep up with popular songs much but I have heard that type of music here and there and I can certainly jam to it." Sure I could have said "No." but I didn't know that artist so I felt I had to explain myself rather than say that because I didn't actually dislike/know that artist. I guess some people like myself are slightly long winded but I think its bad to only accept short answers as if explaining is bad.

Do you have an example? I'm thinking that a lot of times you would more than just a yes/no answer, that you ask a yes/no question as a way of getting someone to talk about the subject of the question.

A lot of politicians, though, are good at avoiding answering the questions asked, and I dislike that. There, it isn't about them not answering yes or no, it's that they don't answer the question, and sometimes talk about something else.

This probably wasn't the yes/no answer you wanted to your questions.
