Is it normal to be afraid to talk even online

I'm not a confident person IRL, but this get's carried over to the online world too. I really wanted to join a become part of a community but i am afraid, because all i can think about is that the other person would think "who is this person?, acting all friendly. I speak this from experience, one of the things i'm most afraid of is butting into somebody else's conversation or group that i am not a part of.

Talk about cats, and how great they are! The Ancient Egyptians used worship a cat goddess called Bast!

I feel that on an open forum that anyone (or at least registered members) can view and comment on, it isn't "butting in" to contribute and anyone who feels it is should probably take the conversion to PMs instead. Feel free to share your input! There may be people at times who don't appreciate it, but that is life. As long as you're not being abrasive or bossy, I don't think most people care.

Also, I used to be very unconfident, socially awkward, and afraid of what people would think of me/afraid of annoying others. In my experience, the only way to fix this is to socialize. Yes, it's uncomfortable and hard, but the more you practice and gain experience, the more comfortable you will feel and the better at it you'll get. I find that asking people about themselves is a great way to get people interested in your conversation, and they'll enjoy talking to you. People love to talk about themselves! Also, just general small talk like the weather, current events (though it's best to avoid politics unless you know the other person is on the same side as you, as that's a touchy subject that can get heated quickly), whatever is going on at the place/event you're at, etc. I have gone from barely being able to hold a conversation or look anyone in the eye to finding conversation natural. If I can do it, anyone can!

Yeah, I am kinda in your shoes. In fact I'm like that in real life.
