and Japanese? I was with one of my friends and he showed me a book with Japanese writing. I said "Is that Chinese?"
Then he said, "No, it's Japanese, you racist."

Depends where you live. Yes, they all look the same for the most part but if you live in some liberal s*it hole like San Francisco or Portland, then you can be admonished by people that can't even tell the difference themselves and feel like total fools when they are put in a position of identifying one Asian race from another! Tell your friend to go go F*ck himself. That's no friend but a politically correct drone who's been told what to say, act, think, feel and has no mind of their own.

What a prick, the languages look identical to somebody who doesn't know them.
I hate people that use the word racist incorrectly. I just want to slap those motherfuckers. Like read a dictionary once in a while. It's like these days you can't describe somebody's skin colour without being called racist!!! FUUUUUUUCCCCCKKK

You asked him if it was Chinese, you didn't state they were Chinese. I think the person is overreacting.

Japanese does have some Chinese characters (or Kanji as they call them) in their writing system so I understand the confusion.

I get that too with my language, some say "Is that German?" which is fine because they were asking a question not telling me it is German.

I'd have punched him in the throat straight out. You asked a question, not made a statement. Your friend is an uneducated fuck- knuckle.

It is not racist to not know the difference between the written languages. This does not make you a horrible person. However, as someone who is half Filipino, I get very angry when people assume I am Mexican. I don't think they are racist though. Just ignorant.

Wait. People mistake Filipinos for Mexicans? How does that happen?

It's not fair he called you that. They look really similar. It's like when someones speaking a different language and for example you say hey is that spanish and it turns out to be i dont know, portugese (lame example) and then then say, HEY THERE MR RACIST!!!

That's not racist at all. It's very hard to tell the difference, especially when Japanese and Chinese use a lot of the same exact kanji! Your friend does NOT know what REAL racism is.

No, that't not racist at all. Why should you be expected to know about other countries written languages unless you had a reason to or an interest in them?

This doesn't fall under any definition of racism I know about. Also, I don't know how anyone can be expected to know something until they've learned it. The person who called you a racist is in the wrong here.

    Not racist, just ignorant.

Racism is a form of ignorance. It's just a combination of being ignorant and outspoken. Those two usually = a racist. Or a republican. Lol

    I'm a Chinese girl.

I think the guy is only very angry and lose ration at instant, not intending to insult you.

I want to explain that Chinese have deep hate to their regime(Not the people). We have serious conflict in the history. Japanese have done anti-human things to us. Such like implementing plagues, rape and then kill our women, etc.

Japanese people have learn the Kanji from us cause they have no written languages in ancient time. Later they develop kanas. Kanji in Japanese and Chinese vary a lot.For example. "侍"in Japanese means samurai, when in china, it often means"serve for/servant/care for/people offer sex to the emperor, etc.)"

The culture of Japanese spread much stronger due to its Animes, games and katana. We Chinese like(some people even addicted to) their culture and their food.Especially their animes and porns.

    Wish it could help.

No. And besides that they are different languages, not races. The guy hasn't a clue and is insulting.

You didn't know the difference between the two writings? That's not racist, it's totally understandable if you don't speak either of the languages. I can sorta tell the difference, it's hard to explain though lol
