Is it normal to be embarrassed at this medical appointment?

My mom came with me to an appointment about a cyst on my back.

After my NP looked at the cyst, she (in front of my mom and without any warning) just suddenly completely lifted up the front of my shirt to look at my chest, and I wasn’t wearing a bra, so they both saw everything.

Depends how old you are, but I'd say it is common courtesy to at least tell you what she's going to do before exposing your chest like that.

Your mom's seen it all before, but that doesn't mean you can't have a sense of privacy.

    How old are you?

She probably assumed you were fine with your mum seeing that, as she accompanied you to the appointment.

If it upset you then I would let them know. It might save someone else from feeling the way you do now.

Talk to your NP about what she did and how you'd like it to stop in the future. If she doesn't agree, get a new NP. It may be time you are old enough to go to appointments alone?

Why did she lift up your shirt?

If your not okay with the person seeing or hearing anything and everything, then don't invite them into the exam room.

Most medical personnel will ask or you have to ask if they can accompany you to the exam room.

Once that happens your consent to observe and hear what happens has been given. They are not going to ask for each statement or procedure they do if it is still okay.
