Is it normal to be frightened by thunderstorms still?

Being afraid of thunderstorms i feel like is a small child fear, yet that doesn't change anything. Every time there's thunder and lightening, I lay in bed with the covers over my head with my boyfriend. He's not afraid, he actually loves thunderstorms and would rather be watching it through the window. Instead he stays in bed with me because he knows I'm afraid. I just feel like something bad is going to happen whenever there's a storm.

I adore thunderstorms and I miss them terribly :( There used to be awesome ones by where I live. Not so much anymore. They are usually over in a matter of minutes and that makes me sad. Although my one dog is terrified of them so I guess it's better for her this way.

My cat isn't afraid, but he does startle himself when he knocks over glass and it goes CRASH!

  • I know many people my age, 22, who are still afraid of thunderstorms. I, however, can't until we get a severe thunderstorm. I dream of seeing a tornado!

Have you ever seen a tornado?

One of my first memories is sitting on the basement floor eating lucky charms waiting for a tornado to pass.

          • That sounds fun, at least in a way or for some people lol. I've only had to go in the basement only once in my life that I recall.

My psycho ex girlfriend had the same fear as you, did the same thing you did; and I did the same thing your boyfriend did.

Hope her fear isn't part of what made her psycho :p

I love thunderstorms! Time to cuddle with my cat and a blankie.

When I was a kid, I'd stand at the window and watch the T-storms and lightning over SF.
On the water they can be a spot of a bother with high winds, limited visibility and of course the ever present chance of being struck by lightning.
Google "2015 Dauphin Island Race" for a good example of what it's like on a boat.

Well some people have died of lightning strike so your fear isn't irrational.

  • When I was younger I was terrified of the car wash because it sounded like a thunderstorm to me. You wouldn't believe the fit I would throw. I love thunderstorms now, if the thunder is intense or really loud I can still get a little freaked out.

I love thunderstorms but it's okay to be afraid of them if you are .
