Is it normal to be "gifted" with intelligence, but waste it and not give a fuck?

Title sums it up pretty well. I have always been smart compared to the pathetic effort I put in at school. For example I scored 29 on the ACT test and didn't study a single second. All through high school I passed up opportunities to do advanced math and science and almost never studied at all and still got an A on most tests. In college I barely do any work or studying as well and my major, kinesiology, is pretty light academically so I barely do shit for school now to and am still at nothing below a B. I know I could do better but I just don't wanna be I hate do anything academic and just have other priorities in life. Yet most my friends and family say I'm "wasted talent" and "selling myself short" and shit ut really bugs me. So....

Am I wrong for wasting my natural gifts?

Do you think I'll regret it down the road (20 yo now) and not wish I focused on shallower and less prestigious goals?

Would love to hear ya'lls thoughts!

100% sure you're not as smart as you think you are.

Well the only place I got that idea from was people telling me I was smart. That and 29 on the ACT which is way above average.

I don't think you're as smart as you think you are... well, from your description, I guess you're above average anyways, perhaps somewhere around the top 20%.

You don't have to "use your talent" or whatever though. You can choose the way you want to live.

But honestly, I think it's very likely that you'll regret it in 20 years. You may blame yourself for not working hard enough to change your life. Whether you regret it really depends on what kind of person you are and I don't know enough about you to decide. But I'll say that around 80% of people who make this kind of choices will regret...

I mean its mostly other poeple saying I'm smart verses me actually thinking I'm some genius. I do think I am above average but not by a ton.

I had some of that experience. From Jr HS, I tested well and was told I was really smart-high IQ. BUT i think that was bad for me because I kept waiting for the universe to see how smart i was instead of learning to make a living for myself. I d cked around in HS and college, and flunked out. I went back and got good grades years later. It would have been better for me to think I was just an ordinary guy that needed to do the fuggin' homework.

I don't think it matters that you are intelligent and don't use it. So long as you have other things that you are passionate about and follow. Intelligence and school and all that jazz is just one facet of life.

If none of the above applies, then yeah. I think it is a waste because you're just living life stagnantly. If you don't do anything then nothing will happen in return, for the most part. But, at the end of the day, if you're content with that then there's absolutely no issue with what you're doing.

Yea agree. People give it more value than it deserves.
