Is it normal to be interested in the phenomenon of people going missing? For a few years I've been interested in how and why people go missing. I find it fascinating that even in our highly technological time with so many scientific advances people can disappear without a trace.

I sometimes watch TV shows about this topic, and go on true crime message boards where people speculate about particular cases of individuals going missing. Even though I don't write on message boards myself I often wonder about what happened to particular people who went missing. Is this a strange hobby?

    I'm fascinated by the idea of people who fake their own death, then go and start a new life.

      About 5 years ago my girlfriend at the time had her mother pass away a few years before. Supposedly she is dead and that was what everyone thinks. One day I received a very strange phone call from someone claiming to be her mother asking to speak to her. I was out of town at the time and kept the number for her to call back but when she called back the people claimed nobody had ever called me. It was very strange.

    Yeah. The Elisa Lam case really got my attention and I still dont think her death was an accident.

    I have been watching a lot of documentaries lately on aliens and alien abductions. I believe this could be a viable explanation. I think it's pretty shallow to think humans are the only intelligent beings in the universe.

    For the tens of thousands of people that go missing every year, I don't think a faked death, a suicide in the woods, or even a hit by a trained killer, would explain the disappearance of that many people.

    Some people fake their death...some wonder off... some want to escape from their old life. Some are kidnapped ....or murdered! There are a bunch of serial killers out now who remain uncaught...bum bum bummmm

    But to answer your question...I enjoy things like that as well ...like a goid mystery. Its normal thats why there are tv shows for it.

    Its interesting but usually has a simple explaination. Common reasons are they were killed by someone intelligent enough to dispose the body, or they went deep into the woods to kill themself and didn't want people to know what happened.
