Is it normal to be scared to go through security even though i have nothing to

hide? Or to be scared of going near police officers even though i do not break the law?

I went on a holiday to the USA a few weeks ago (i am german) And when i got to Security i was so scared even though i wasn't trying to bring anything over. Im an 18 years old woman who doesn't break the law but i was nervous that something would be in my suitcase, or something in my carry-on would be illegal.

I also get this feeling when i am around police officers. i am scared they will blame me for something or something i do will be against the law and i will not know it.
Do other people feel like this? Do you think it is bad that i am scared of the people who are supposed to keep people safe? It does not seem right to me.

Sorry for my bad english. It is my second language.

I'm a police officer and I can tell you now most of the time we aren't out looking to find people's mistakes 24/7 on the street. We're usually too busy going out on a call to even care.

I live in the U.S. and I'm scared of the police! lol I don't break the law or do anything wrong either, but maybe just knowing that they're allowed to stop us and "interrogate" (I use interrogate because I can't think of a better word) us we're scared? xD I don't know... but it is normal! haha

Maybe "question/enquire" is the word you're looking for?

I live in Belfast, Northern Ireland and we can be stopped and questioned at any time without reason. However, I'm not afraid of the police coz I don't do anything wrong.

Don't worry there aren't too many of them about any more. Apparently they're not allowed to follow suspected hooligans anymore as it violates theie human rights! Come for a visit but don't do anything criminal - we have enough of those running the country.

Try slipping the word "bomb" while you're beside an airport security guard. You'll be questioned for 15 minutes before they let you on the flight.

All I said was lib balm!

I'm not being funny but you're not Jewish are you?
Knowing the history of the Nazi German Government towards law abiding Jews may be why you feel under threat when you see law enforcement. Deep down you maybe know that officials can pick on you for no reason at all, which is what you fear.

    • No, not jewish. But i can agree that distrust of officials could be a part of it..knowing they have the government behind them and i don't.

Yea its normal. They're not fearful paranoids in Germany like here in the US. It's okay, you'll get used to TSA groping your crouch and the police throwing you to the ground if you live here long enough

  • I get that. At airports when the dogs are out I get nervous as if I'm hiding something.

I feel a bit like that. What if someone planted something on me before I left? But if you are sure you have nothing, then you have nothing to fear.

By the way, your English is good!

Every time Im in a gas station I think the cashiers thinks Im going to rob it. So I do. That'll teach them not to trust me.

Cops want you to feel that way. As for traveling, you might just be a little paranoid. Relax a little, you know you are not doing anything wrong.

  • I have the same problem.. Totally normal

I always do something a little extra to "caught." Just something minuscule like carry a small container of carmex even though i said my pockets are completely empty. I just like getting patted down by those hot TSA workers :-$

I suppose it is normal. You could have something without knowing it isn't allowed. Maybe your name is similar to the name of a person wanted by the police. Or they just take so long that you miss your flight.

  • I'm never afraid, but it's definitely not a pleasant experience.
