Is it normal to be surprised at how some people actually look without their masks?

The mask mandate was removed in my area and everyone was observing each other.

Since everyone was wearing a mask for a long time at work, my coworkers were surprised to see what everyone actually looked like.

Some were disappointed and thought that some people would look cuter without the mask and it turned out to not be the case.

Some were surprised that the people they perceived as ugly were actually cute.

Some people guessed others ages wrong and were either satisfied or disappointed with their guesses.

And some were startled over the surprise moustache and beards a lot of the guys had.

Is it normal? I was one of the lucky ones that people said looked better than they thought. My ugly, tired eyes and eye bags aren't exactly photogenic.

To the people that had mask mandates: Did any of you have the same experience when your areas mask mandate was lifted?

Why do you think criminals wear masks? Same reason.

I kind of liked the privacy of wearing a mask. I forgot how many forced smiles we put out to others during the day. Now without a mask if my and a stranger's eyes meet I feel socially obligated to smile.

Masks are still required at my work and will be for another few weeks at the very least. I’ve been told I look older with my mask which I’m fine with as without it I’m frequently mistaken for 6-8 years my junior and asked how school’s going. I wouldn’t say I look uglier with it as everyone can still get lost searching for the flecks of green in my dazzling hazel eyes 💚
