Is it normal to be terrified of swimming pool lights?

I have always been deathly afraid of swimming pool lights...even when they are not on. I can't go near them. Even a picture of them makes me uncomfortable. I stay as far away from them as possible when I am in a swimming pool. I have even had nightmares about this. Does anyone else have this fear? What in the world does it mean?

Common sense. Water + electricity = a potentially not good time.

  • The wave machine is the scariest, it looks like a giant underwater vent...

I sort of have a phobia of those black lane lines in swimming pools. I have been like that since I was a kid. I know they're just tiles and up close they look harmless but from a distance they look like black holes and that something might come out of them, that's what watching to many horror movies does to you lol. You'll see on the web page that other people have this phobia too.

I'm more scared of the drain than the light.

Just reading your post sent a shiver down my spine. I'd forgotten all about this because I stopped swimming after I had an accident and nearly drowned. Any underwater lights in a big body of water gives me the shakes.

    You're not alone.

    • Approaching submarines must terrify you.

Oh, God, yes. Luckily, they seem to be positively allergic to the above-sea environment I generally inhabit.

Thanks, dappled! Good to know I'm not the only one...wonder what it means/represents?

Unusual phobia, but there are stranger ones out there. If it stops you from having fun at the swimming pool, some form of therapy might help. Even self-therapy step by step can work :) get a friend to help you and keep you motivated to rationalise and overcome the fear.

I don't see the problem. Probably a troll post.
