Is it normal to be texted/messaged by a teacher?

So I'm studying (F, 21), and one of the lecturers who taught me last year recently added me on instagram and started responding to my posts and a LOT of my stories. We recently organized a Christmas event with our university and he messaged me that my part was his favorite. He's not following any other students and i'm slightly weirded out but also think that maybe I'm overthinking it and he's just being nice. Is it normal to be on texting/messaging terms with one of your students as a lecturer? Am I just weird for overthinking it?

I don’t think what he is doing is appropriate. Everyone knows, especially teachers, that teachers need to keep a professional relationship with students. Even being too friendly with one student can cause rumors that can hurt them both.

He could have innocent intentions but I don’t think it’s likely since you’re the only student he follows and he is responding to your post and stories a lot. If he was this friendly towards other students and you weren’t the only one then there is nothing to be suspicious of, but that’s not the case.

Exactly, singling her out to give her special attention outside of the class is weird. It’s ALWAYS best to trust your intuition in these situations OP.

Keep your distance and if he starts being inappropriate screenshot it and report it.

Something kinda tells me is that the teacher might have creep intentions.

Well in high school many students for some reason added teachers on social media and the teachers would comment on their posts and stuff but this sounds weird if you're the only student he's communicating with. Just keep a distance and keep all messages he sends just in case and if he crosses a line you make it clear you're not interested and you could even report him. It's not just pervy but also against the rules for a teacher to hit on a student, he could lose his license.

It doesn't look weird to me. He hasn't done anything that was or looked liked he was a pervert.
    You're overthinking.

lmao he's trying to slide into your dms dude. You gotta block him or at least let him know that this shit ain't cool. I feel like I got quite friendly with some of my teachers from highschool and though we catch up time to time I would be a bit alarmed if they are responding to a lot of my stories, especially more so if me and that teacher weren't close.

He's a lecturer who's no longer teaching you right? I think the title is slightly misleading here. There's a big difference in terms of a teacher and a lecturer when it comes to stuff like this.

No, not normal. It's totally inappropriate for him to pursue an ex pupil like this. It's not even as if he's been decent enough to simply ask you out in a genuine way - that would at least suggest that he genuinely developed feelings for you and his intentions are good. Instead he's just pestering you and playing games. He's coming across like a creepy perve.

    Tell him to fuck off.

When I was in college I established several friendships with my professors, one that lasted decades.

My advice is that it is best to assume that they are just being nice and see you as a nice person they would like to be friends with... and at the same time be a bit cautious if it more than that.

There's nothing actually unprofessional about becoming friends between teachers and students. It's when they expect more than friendship that it becomes an issue.

It seems fine. He probably is just sweet on you.

But if you don’t like it or it makes you feel uncomfortable, don’t respond anymore.

Sounds like he’s a dirty old perv. Ask if you can sit on his face, he will probably run a mile but at least he will know you are on to him.

It depends on the context and vibes hes putting off. It could be innocent. Or he could think you are attractive. Make sure you arent accidentally putting out signals that may come off as you being down with a relationship
