Is it normal to be tired all the time?

I often feel too tired to even go get dinner. I'm in high school, I go to boarding school a thousand km away from family so I have to take care of myself. But lately I've been feeling too tired to... I can't find the energy to shower, or to take care of how I look (which is awful in high school), or do my work or anything like that. Instead I just stare out or scroll through my phone for hours on end.

It's gotten so bad that the school made me take multiple blood tests to see if I had a condition or something, or if I was anaemic, but I'm not. I'm apparently completely healthy, just triple as tired as anyone I know.

Might be worth mentioning that I have double the workload of an average student thanks to taking my GCSEs in one year. Help? Is it normal to be tired all the time and never get any work done? I need to do well at school.

Is there a chance that you could be depressed?

    • I don't think so. I live a good life. I shouldn't be depressed, at least.

You could have narcolepsy. Talk to your doctor about it.

    • Narcolepsy is about falling asleep at random throughout the day, but I'm just tired all the time.

Sounds like chronic fatigue syndrome to me. Either that or slow release PTA which is common if long hours are spent looking at screens.

    • Ah, the PTA thing might be it. I use my laptop in class and when not looking at my laptop, I use my phone. I'll try cut down my screen time and see if that yields any results.

Melatonin + Caffeine + more sleep

    • I don't drink coffee, or any caffeine so that's not a fix for me (I don't know, I don't like how it tastes I guess). And again, I get plenty of sleep (about 9 hours?), and the school doesn't allow me to take medication unless prescribed by the medcentre here.

Caffeine pills online mate. Way cheaper anyways. Melatonin is a sleep aid that you take before bed so the school can't outlaw that.

        • Thank you. I'll try get some melatonin, then, and maybe the caffeine pills too.

Yes good idea but do realize that these are merely masking the problem that shouldn't be there in the first place. Basically what I'm saying here is see a damn doctor, possibly a specialist.

You're just being lazy. Find something that inspires you. Try exercising as well.

    • I do exercise (required by school haha. Back when I had more energy I used to use the school's gym a lot too but I don't anymore, I'm too tired). I hope you're right with the whole being-lazy thing. I wish I could work harder.

If you can force yourself to jog everyday in a few days you'll feel more energu

        • Really? I'll try that then. Although with mock exams coming up I really should be studying more, but in the end gaining energy would make me study faster, right?

Taking 30-45 minutes to exercise is not going to impact your school work negatively. Lol.

            • you'd be surprised. I only have about half an hour to relax per day, so I wouldn't have any time left to just relax.

Get thyroid checked. If every test comes to be normal then contact a psychiatrist(go on antidepressants plus benzos). It is possible to be depressed but not realize it.

    • That might be a good idea. I've heard that an overactive thyroid also causes a lack of memory? I'm very forgetful.

I have not heard that an overactive thyroid causes a lack of memory, but depression very often causes difficulty concentrating which can probably lead to memory problems. Ask for a complete thyroid panel when getting thyroid tested.

Something is wrong here. It could be physical or mental. Go to the doctor and explain your symptoms

    • The school did force me to go to the doctor, but she checked for symptoms in the blood. I don't know, should I ask to get a full body check-over or what?

    • No, but they (the doctor, I mean) said I was perfectly healthy from my blood tests at least.

Maybe maybe not. You sound overwhelmed so possibly just * shut down*.If you can get your vitamin levels checked like iron magnesium vitamin b .

    • I do feel overwhelmed haha. The doctor did check my blood for all that and told me I should be completely healthy.

Maybe something more subtle like cfs. But hey at least its nothing serious. Liquid B vitamin s helped my energy but i have lots of issues.
