Is it normal to be trans out of boredom?

I technically fit the definition of trans outside of this, but I never felt the need to act on it. Now I want to just because I'm very bored, I would like to start dressing as a completely different person when going out let's say to the store or park or so, where there would be relatively little human contact. is it normal to do this as a hobby just for fun? I am not interested in meeting people in this persona, it would be purely for my own enjoyment. I don't think I have the confidence yet though, but I have been working towards a more androgynous appearance.

I wouldn't find it that strange for a female to wear men's clothing. If it was a guy who wore women's clothing, I would find it very strange, I don't know why. I just inexplicably see it that way.

    • But what if you didn't know it was a "female wearing men's clothing"? I would like to just be seen as a guy (passing completely). It would be my greatest fear to do this just to end up looking like a "female wearing men's clothes", and I would not leave the house that way until I could get it right (if at all).

If I didn't know, then I wouldn't know. But let's say that person who I thought was a dude was actually a girl, and I found out. I would be shocked, because I was positive that's a guy. That's pretty much everyone's reaction, however they feel about being trans.

        • Yes but I'm both. This topic is about transvestism, but that doesn't mean I'm not transgender too. I'm just not in a place where I can act on the latter yet.

Maybe you should've included more about that so people don't assume you're a transtrender. Certainly how it seems on the first read through.

            • Wtf, transtrender? lmao that's a new one.

"I technically fit the definition of trans outside of this"

I could have gone into great detail as to what the definition of trans[gender] is but people don't typically read posts here that are more than a few lines long.

When people say trans, they mean transgender, not transvestite. They are very different.

Boys fearing to fail as men opt instead to become deranged depictions of women. They run away from competing in the male dominance hierarchy entirely, but a man can never run away from that animal-like feature rooted into our nervous systems for so long.

No matter what drugs or body alterations take place, their failure will look them in the eye one day. And that's why the transgendered suicide rate is so high.

You're bored because you don't have enough to do, and you know you're wasting your life. Improve yourself, don't go down this dead-end path.

    • No one said anything about drugs and body alterations. I have plenty to do with my life and I improve myself everyday, I'm still bored. This is just a hobby. Chill out bro. Sounds like you're projecting a bit

I assume you're a young man. Now is the most important stage of your life to find your hobbies, what you're naturally gifted at and also enjoy.

Crossdressing is a fetish, not a hobby.

            Fetish:
Psychology. any object or nongenital part of the body that causes a habitual erotic response or fixation.

In your case, this is a fixation.

Where did you get the impression this is anything of an "obsessive interest"? You on the other hand seem to have a "fixation" with making assumptions...

as a transgender man, i think you don't even fucking know what the word means.
trans doesn't mean TRANSvestite, it means transGENDER.
it's not a fucking costume, it's who you are.

    • No, normal human clothes are not a costume, nor are they "who you are". I'm pretty sure I don't need your approval to use a term that applies to me, so fuck off with your ignorant hate and gatekeeping bulshit. Just because YOU have the time / money / self confidence / autonomy to be whoever the fuck you want, don't make you any "more trans" than me, bitch.

  • _Mehhhh_

    Yeah that's pretty common today.

Look up "Non-binary", "Genderqueer" or just ambiguously "queer". You'll find a whole community of people who claim "trans" just to be edgy and have a label, but who have no intention of transitioning.

Kinda sick trivialising a genuine medical condition for personal enjoyment, but whatever.

    • Did you miss the part where I said I fit the “genuine medical” definition of trans outside of this boredom?

Are you saying that drag queens and transgenders are also “trivializing” those who are lucky enough to have the autonomy and self confidence to be whoever they want, or were you just being hostile for no real reason?

Keep your dumb genderqueer bullshit “communities” to yourself. Going out in public as the opposite gender is called “trans” whether you allow it or not. I don’t really care about people’s dumbass labels but that’s how the world works so deal with it.

Well if that's that case I do apologise. I'm just so used to seeing this "genderqueer" bullshit that it's an easy thing to assume these days

Also I don't disagree with your last paragraph at all. That's kind of my whole point...

And no I don't think drag queens are guilty of the same thing. Drag queens aren't walking around politicising being trans, and speaking on behalf of trans people whose lives they don't live, unlike "genderqueers"

        • Ok, sorry for goin off on you then. I'm not good at explaining things, but I would never do this for attention if that's what you're saying. I just feel like the opposite sex, but I've always suppressed that. I'm kind of bored of life in general and was thinking to try to act on it now might help somewhat, if that's who/what I'm "supposed" to be.

  • Do whatever you want but don't complain later.

    Comment Hidden ( show )

    • Why would I complain? I think you guys are taking this way too seriously. "Trans" in this case simply means going out in public dressed (passably) as the opposite gender. That's all there is to it. That is the definition the word has been given.

            trans·gen·der
            transˈjendər,tranzˈjendər/Submit
            adjective
denoting or relating to a person whose sense of personal identity and gender does not correspond with their birth sex.

Wearing clothes of the opposite sex doesn't make you transgender, quit making up your own definition. Being transgender is a result of feeling incompleteness or disagreement with your sex. It's almost like a calling. Not something you do because you're bored and have no hobbies. As for being transvestite, correct. Add "vestite" next time, as trans almost always stands for transgender.

              -
            • Yep, as I said I fit that definition as well, I'm just not to the point of being socially able to act on it yet.

Think of it this way, Let's say you have depression but you also have a family to take care of, so you focus all your attention to them. You are staying alive for their benefit, but you still hate yourself and want to die. In your spare time you cut yourself. Are you saying that person doesn't really have depression, because they haven't killed themselves yet?

Being trans isn't a costume you put on, it's who you are.

            Comment Hidden ( show )
      • Pumpurrnickel

Being trans is straight up thinking of yourself as the opposite gender and doing everything the opposite gender does. People who identify as transgender or transsexual are people who are born with typical male or female anatomies but feel as though they've been born into the wrong body. What you're doing is called nothing but cross-dressing.

        Comment Hidden ( show )
          -
        • Wrong. I do think of myself as the opposite gender, but to actually "identify" or "transition" to something I was not lucky enough to be born as, just sounds way too arrogant for my comfort.
