Is it normal to be white and talk in ebonics?

I don't do it willingly, but because there were a lot of black people in the schools where I grew up, and because I hear them talking all the time in my neighborhood, I sometimes have a tendency to slip into their dialects when I'm not careful. This is especially embarrassing, and I have to be careful not to use the 'N' word, because I've heard blacks use it so much that it's become hard to expurgate it from my speech. The other day, I told my white friends that I unfriended a white person on one of my accounts because of he was a "thirsty-ass nigga," and I was tired of his moaning.

Yes its normal, especially considering your circumstance, and I know plenty of white people who talk in that dialect(love of black culture perhaps) in my school so I wouldn't considered it abnormal

If anything, its just another dialect of english that is quite "normal" within north america.

Whether or not it is normal tp be "white" and speak in that dialect of english depends on how you are defining "white". The color or the stereotype.

"...because there were a lot of black people..."

i hope you realize that not all black people speak in slang - slang isn't a "black" thing, it's a cultural thing. but it honestly, speak as you please. you being white doesn't make a difference.

I knew people like you when I was younger. We called them wiggers for obvious reasons.

    • So people who speak in the dialect they heard most frequently growing up are idiots? Please feel free to elaborate upon how your or anyone else' dialect is the "correct" one.

One more piece of the puzzle. Degeneracy of tongue runs rampant.

    • Degeneracy of taste, as well; that would explain why you're here.

Is that why you're here too?

It's somewhat normal. I grew up with a lot of black friends and listened to a lot of hip-hop growing up so I can slightly talk like that on accident sometimes. When I'm say at a job interview I can keep it at bay though. It's just a cultural thing...you don't have to be black. I've noticed lot's of inner city white people talk that way. For instance watch an interview with Tim Armstrong from Rancid... punk band of all white dudes which is so far from the type you would think talks that way but he talks so black it's funny.
