Is it normal to believe age discrimination is pointless?

I have no preference for age in terms of judging others. "Old" people were young at one point, and young people will be "old" someday. I just don't see the point. No one can stop the clock. We really have no choice about getting older and need to learn to accept the fact. A person's age has some limited effect on their personality and character, but in general it does not. People do not drastically change over the years. I don't identify with any particular age group because I feel that defeats the purpose of living.

*Shakes a stick at the youngsters*

Mnyeeh!! *wheeze* Brats think they'll be young forever, but in the eyes of an adult they're usurped SO quickly by the next generation of brats. They barely have enough time to feel superior and invincible. In like two years every trend and stupid meme 17-year-olds today think will never die will be passé. And then they'll mourn it all with premature nostalgia when they're 19. Teenagers are lame, I'm glad I never was one (: Went straight from twelve to twenty, me.

In all seriousness, though, you're right, ageism is useless. Contrary to popular belief, adults really do remember what it's like to be a teenager. So much of it was horrible that a lot of us try to block it out, however.
    XD

I think some people find it hard to accept that their generation will not be the final and ultimate step for humanity. There will always be babies being born to take the thrown of pop-culture. Because of this, we tend to hype up our own generation and all of its nostalgic property. We pretend that everything was better when we were kids and that the new generation is "dooming" humanity. Thing is; thing's change. It's not all good, and it's not all bad. So make friends with somebody twice or half your age! Why not?

Even though I'm only 18, I find myself trying not to think about all the embarassing stuff, which is about 95% of all memories. So I can imagine this to be especially true when I'm older

Yeah, it's nice that the good memories just seem to matter more. I think it's because the only good negativity can do is help us grow, and the very nature of evolution is to move on, so we literally dissociate ourselves from things we've learned from. Whereas good memories can remind us why we should love ourselves and value ourselves, so we use them often in later life to sort of bolster our self confidence. Just a theory though...

    1) There are a lot of people who change over the years. It's called experience.

    2) I do think there is a reason to age discriminate. I don't think a 45 year old man with a 13 year old (no matter how mature the latter is) makes any sense.

    3) I don't think age has anything to do with one's character, but definitely personality. It all has to do with, as I said, experience.

    4) Some people prefer speaking to those their own age. It's a preference. Nothing wrong with it.

Very well said, I agree with you 100%, I wish more people thought this way.
