So is it really bad to call non retarded people " retard"? I know it's not PC but how strongly do you feel about it? I used to do it but now I make an effort to stop. There are enough bad names to call someone other than poking fun at people with brain damage. It's like calling someone a " brain cripple".
The difference for me is, I wouldn't call someone who had cognitive difficulties a retard. I save that for the fuckwits. I have respect for people with disabilities that I do not have for dumb fucks.

It is weird though that he agreed you shouldn't use it to discribe someone with real disabilities, but yet he also doesn't understand how someone could be offended at the proper use of the word. If that is the case, why would he hesitate to use it?

Is this a Countess Douche post? I think you should continue to use the word retard as much as possible. I use it all the time. It's a very useful word. Except a few days ago at school a class mate called someone a retard and they got publicly shamed by the teacher. I think it's pretty retarded to get that worked up about it. The unfortunate thing is that no matter what word you come up with to describe mentally-challenged people, you are almost guaranteed that the word will eventually become an insult. The words "idiot," "imbecile," and "moron," were actually the terms used to describe people with intellectual disabilities at one time, though they've all become generic insults by now. "Special," "mentally-challenged," and "retarded," were also words that were once used to describe the disabled, though they've all become insults.
