Is it normal to constantly need parental approval even though i am an adult?

Maybe its the manner I was raised in, but even though I am an adult, I feel the constant need to get parental approval/validation with everything I do in my life and its really starting to pose negative effects on my life. I can never enclose this part of my life with anybody in my waking life, but do you guys think this is normal? I just cant seem to be satisfied with my own decisions, and my father has such a particular grip on me, so what should I do!

You've gotta break off. If it's too hard, try telling them what you're going to do, rather than asking. Like the above, smaller things first. :)

Oh man... I'm the same way and I hate it. I don't need approval of EVERYTHING, but I find myself asking them a lot.

Maybe you can start with little things without asking them and eventually grow to bigger things? I don't know what else you can do.

I think it's normal, but I don't think it's healthy. Like you said, you're an adult. Learn how to be one. In some ways, you're still acting like a child.

I think seeking validation is a normal thing to do for most people, but only to a certain degree. This seems too far, and you need to start being more independent. It's like you don't trust yourself to make a good decision or something.
