Is it normal to cry in math class when i don’t know something?

I think it’s academic pressures, but let’s say that when the teacher explains something and I don’t get it I feel like crying, it just makes me feel like a failure to my parents for not working hard enough to know this stuff. Especially when I spend all my days studying.

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

I've never really felt like "a failure to my parents", I guess it's a cultural thing, because although I might be a failure I only see it as failing myself.

when you don't understand something even though you're trying hard, it's always the teacher's fault. Don't ever feel bad about it. Just tell him and even get angry at him. If he's a good teacher he will help you understand

You don't need to cry for that, and you certainly aren't a failure. If you don't get it, just ask the teacher, since if you don't ask the question you won't ever get it, and believe me, not getting something is not beneficial for your grade.

Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses. You may not be that good at math but you can be good at other things.

Plus, you don't study for your parents! You study for yourself. Just don't think about your parents when you study. They aren't the reason why you study hard!

I used to cry because in Chem I didn't know how to combine elements together. I just didn't understand it, and I didn't know what to do. Everything usually came easily to me, and I wondered why this wasn't making sense. But in honesty, i'm sensitive... and if it's too hard i'll stop. I just feel as if everything is supposed to come easy to me... but having a lot of pressure on you does contribute to crying. I'd say, somewhat normal.

You're not a failure, everyone learns at their own pace. If you're trying but you don't get it right away, then it's being taught too fast. Take your time with it and you'll get it eventually. For anyone to expect any more of you than that is asking the impossible.

I cried in year 2 when I couldn't figure out division.
If you spend so much time studying I'm sure you are brilliant at other stuff.
Take your time you'll get it, I can now divide.

I think I was a bit like that too, when I was little. Maybe you're a sensitive type?
As a sidenote, I could never understand maths/physics in class either; it only made sense when I went back & studied it by myself at home. So don't feel bad about that either.

Ease up on yourself, sounds like too much pressure.

Yes. Some Math teachers are so terrible, that you are better off learning straight from the book. If the book is better than the teacher, read the chapter he is covering before the class.

Yeah that is reaally helpful. The only way I can understand math class since my teacher speaks so fast
