Is it normal to despise 1-ply toilet paper?

My wife and I try to cut back on unnecessary spending, and that means buying generic brands or in bulk. What I didn't know, was that this would result in her buying Scott Tissue 1-Ply 1000 Sheet Per roll toilet paper, which is so thin you can see through it! What's the point of 1000 sheets when you have to use twice as much? Plus, since it is basically the texture of tree bark, it doesn't absorb anything at all!

It should say: You use just as much paper, but we have no absorbency or texture so you'll be in pain after using this.

Ugh! Long story short, I now grocery shop when we're low on TP, I get Cottonelle, not too soft, not too thin. Justt right. I use at most 3 squares at a time.

Is it normal to be this angry about 1-ply toilet paper? Because it is the absolute worst thing. Most public bathrooms have at least 2-Ply.

    There are some things that just aren't economical to buy the cheap stuff.
    I've found that good TP and paper towels (especially the select-a-size sheet stuff) are much cheaper and work better than the cheap stuff, in the long run.
    That is one of the hardest parts of living overseas; crappy TP is the norm. The English TP won't even tear on the perforations. The good Charmin (extra strong, NOT extra soft) can be a couple of bucks US a roll, but at least it gets the job done w/o having to use a lot.

    I just would not wipe rather than use one-ply. You end up with poop on your fingers using t.p. this thin. Best to just let your undies take the hit and wash those.

    Cheap dunny paper is false economy and you're right, you end up using more of it. I buy extra length rolls from Aldi - a pack of four lasts me about a month (single person household with few visitors).

    I used to be able to get good quality recycled rolls but it all seems rubbishy and too thin now.

    Is there anyone else on here old enough to remember the squares of newspaper on the nail in the outside dunny? Believe me, if you've grown up with that you appreciate good toilet paper even more

    My wife is a shrewd shopper and sometimes buys the cheap stuff on sale. It really irritates me when I'm wiping my ass and my fingers go right thru the paper and end up full of shit. Then I use a lot more the next time.
