Is it normal to dislike androgynous names?

It's been a trend for a few decades and only getting more popular.
Jordan
Blake
Tanner
Riley
And of course...Pat.
The last name trend is getting ridiculous do you really have to call your kid Worthington, Smith, Kennedy? Why not Jablonski or Johnson?
Just sick of all the mindless trends.

Actually my sister named all her kids androgynous names (2 boys 2 girls) whereas I named my kids 2 of the most common names that were around at the time. I think its because I really hated my name Ashley from the very beginning. When I was a kid it was predominately a boys name and I think it was one of the factors to why I had a hellish experience at high school. That and the fact there was a lot of cunts at my school.

Two worst names I have ever heard of was an ex hippy calling his kids Lala and Booger...those kids were condemned not to survive high school.

    • I know Ashley and Lindsay used to be boy's names but they do sound feminine. How about Blokesley? AT least you weren't named that.

Eh. I can understand that. All of those names you listed are traditionally masculine - except for Pat, which is a nickname for either Patrick or Patricia. I like the feminine variation of Jordan - Jordana. As for the others, yeah, I'm not so into them (for either sex for that matter). The last name thing is weirder to me, honestly. Like, Mackenzie? You wouldn't name your daughter Johnson, would you? It just doesn't make sense to me.

I didn't know that "Tanner" could be considered a unisex name. This name seems so masculine.

Names like "Tanner", to me, fall into this trend of giving your kids stupid, terrible, or overused names. These are Caucasian people's ghetto names.

    It includes names like:
    Jayden
    Mason
    Traylor (I kid you not)
    Bryson
    Greyson/Grayson
    Taylor
Mckenzie (This is actually a good name, but overused)
    Braxlee
    Ryder
    Ryker
    Jaylen/Jaylin
    Brook'lynn
    Tyce
    ETC.

No who named their poor kid Brook'lynn or Traylor?

I personally like names that not everyone has...my daughters name is unusual actually. ..she will never be able to find her name at a gift shop.
I would say my daughters first name but people on here would most likely be able to find her easily via Google search.
I will say she is named after my cousin who died Young a brain tumour ...I took off the first letter of my cousins name and thats the name I gave my daughter....her middle name is after my other cousin who died of drowning.

      • You named your child after someone you love, that's not thoughtless.
Im talking about people who call their child "Kynnadie" and have no care for the president or family history. They hear it in the park and say "oh that sounds trendy, lets use it but not bother to find out how to spell Kennedy "

Every name you listed I see as male by default. I think the female usage is the exception. I've never met a female Blake or Tanner. Tanner especially would be an awful name for a girl.

Tanner is someone who processes leather goods :/

All the Blakes I know IRL are guys. One of my best friends as a kid was a Blake.

One of the bullies at my school was a bloke called Tracy Power. He was a total idiot, and I wonder if his behaviour was partly a result of what his parents chose to bestow upon him.

These days, you cannot assume anything about a person's gender based on his/her name. I knew a female Sam, Tyler, and Andy (granted, the Sam and Andy were nicknames for Samantha and Andrea) and a male Taylor, Dakota, and Angel. I personally don't mind that the barriers are being broken down on what defines a "male" or "female" name, but I can understand the frustration.

How are these names mindless trends...haven't they been around for awhile as name options ?
There have been popular names and unpopular ones threw out history. This isnt some new fangled thing where some names gain populartlity for a time period...

I have an androgynous name and I'm quite fond of it. I also like Jordan, Rae, Robin and Ryan.

I must agree with you on the last name thing. It's just too much.
