Is it normal to eat wasabi by itself?

So I love Wasabi, and sometimes i even eat it straight from this tube of wasabi I buy. I also eat the leftover Wasabi after I run out of fish when I go to a sushi restaurant. My friend says it's weird but I think it's delicious. Is it normal to just eat wasabi plain?

Unless you live in Japan, what you are really eating is green horseradish. Read the ingredients on the tube. Wasabi, which is part of the horseradish family, is a scarce plant, hard to make and expensive. Real wasabi is made on demand, in the restaurant and it loses its flavor in about 20 minutes. The wasabi leaves grow under water and wouldn't survive the trip from Japan. So save your money and just put green food coloring in a jar of horseradish and call it wasabi.
