Is it normal to fake injuries or accidents to get attention as a habit?

Today I fell down the stairs. Exept I didn't actually trip; it was all on purpose. I wasn't hurt, again because it was all on purpose. There was no reason behind this. This kind of thing happens all the time.
I have no idea why I do it, I just feel like it. Is this normal? Please help!

Did this when I was about thirteen, yeah. I can't remember how it happened but I had some kind of accident that made my face bleed so I went and lay on the bed (thinking it would stop if I was horizontal). When my mum got home, I pretended it was worse than it was. Solely for attention.

Not proud of it, but it happens. We all go on about attention-seekers these days but we were all ultimate attention-seekers once (as babies). Life is just about growing out of it.

In your case, hopefully you are heading in the right direction and will begin to do it less. But it's crazy to assume nobody will ever do it.

You're just another attention seeker. I hope you'll not go as far as doing something really really stupid just to be noticed.

My mom does this all the time, so it's probably not too out of the ordinary. It is kind of annoying, though. Hypochondriacs are difficult to live with sometimes.

You should get a lawyer. They make good money out of suing people for fake injuries.

No, as kids we'd get in trouble if we got hurt, even by accident, so it just wasn't something I'd ever even think of doing!! Then or now!!

Man, this makes me remember the time I thought I broke my arm, it hurt so bad and I had a GIANT hematoma on my elbow (Stevie Wonder coulda seen it!), I couldn't move my fingers....my mom got so mad at me and I had to beg to go to the hospital. She kept saying...do we HAVE to go?? Then we finally go and it turns out it wasn't broken so I got yelled at even more because it was a 'waste' to have gone. On top of it all, it happened while I was busting my ass working on their farm. For free.

Jesus...that is insane...I can't imagine yelling at a kid for genuinely hurting themselves...much less resenting taking them for medical care :-S

Yeah it was pretty hard to deal with. I mean, it was normal to me because I didn't know better back then, but to have to suffer through being sick or hurt and not feeling OK to say anything out of fear of getting yelled at was incredibly stressful.

When they get sick as elders, treat then the way they treated you.
